To the People of That Future We Leave That Legacy

  • Hyde Park Art Center - MMR 5020 South Cornell Avenue, Chicago (map)

Moderated by Mohamed Mehdi, this panel brings together artists Hương Ngô and Hồng-Ân Trương in conversation with scholars Nguyễn Thúy Ly and Nadine Naber to discuss solidarity and the role of artists and scholars in organizing for justice in Palestine. Ngô and Trương's project, To the People of That Future We Leave That Legacy, included in the Creative Rebellion exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center, examines the brutally consequential UN Resolution 181, which passed in November 1947. This resolution partitioned Palestine into two separate states and immediately sparked a war between Arab and Jewish communities in Palestine, an international conflict which ultimately perpetuated the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. Using To the People of That Future We Leave That Legacy as a starting point, the panelists will consider the relationship between aesthetic and organizing strategies, modes of solidarity between Vietnam and Palestine, and the responsibilities of scholars and artists to attend to historical truths and the current material realities of our interconnected communities both in the US and elsewhere.
